Lake Activities

As you would expect at a resort destination at a lake, there are dozens of different lake-related activities going on at Big Bear Lake throughout the four seasons.

There is an excellent web site that lists every activity and special event in Big Bear, on a month to month basis, from cultural and educational events to sports and recreation activities. Visit bigbear.com and select the month (or months) you plan to visit for a complete listing of activities.

If, for example, you enjoy wakeboarding, wakeskating, waterskiing, tubing, riding an Air Chair or just going on a lake tour, then Designated Wake Sports is the #1 way to have a good time on Big Bear Lake. They offer almost every water activity that you can think of doing behind a boat.wakeboarding

All of their equipment is new and top of the line. From their boat, a 21' 2004 Malibu Wakesetter, to their Liquid Force wakeboard/wakeskate equipment, and Connley water skis, they have equipment to fit everyone in the family.

Expert coaches are always available. If you are an experienced rider or just looking for some pointers or trick tips. Maybe you are a first time rider needing step-by-step instruction. We will be able to accommodate you and/or your group.

There are three great paddling spots on Big Bear Lake.

Grout Bay has marshes and beaver dams to explore, and it is also next to a bald eagle preserve here frequent sitings are noted.kayaking on the lake
The Grout Bay picnic area is a nice place to launch. Northwest side of the lake near town.

Boulder Bay, on the southwest side of the lake ext to highway 18 is the most picturesque spot on the lake and has a large parking area where you can launch.
Large boulders jut out of the water in a small bay.

China Island is a small island with oriental styled cottages between Boulder Bay and the dam. Paddle west from Boulder Bay along the shore and you can't miss it.
It was built before the water rose after they built the damn.

NOTE: Paddling opportunities at the above spots are diminished if the lake is more than 11 feet below full.
